Unknown Suspect Wanted for Fatal Hit and Run

San Diego County Crime Stoppers and investigators from the National City Police Department’s Investigations Unit are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating the driver responsible for a fatal hit and run collision that occurred in National City. 

On July 10, 2020, at approximately 12:30 a.m., 28-year-old Victor Ernest Morales was riding his skateboard northbound in the roadway of the 500 block of Palm Avenue. An unknown vehicle struck Morales from behind at a high rate of speed. The driver of the vehicle immediately drove away from the scene, leaving Morales on the roadway. Morales suffered major injuries from the collision and later died. At the time of the incident, Morales was accompanied by his girlfriend and a friend. 

Suspect’s Vehicle Description: 

Investigators believe the suspect’s vehicle is a silver colored, four door, 1999 to 2002 Toyota Echo. The vehicle likely has damage to the front of the driver’s side, including the driver’s side headlight and windshield. 

Footage in the area captured a photo of the suspect’s vehicle, which is on this release. Investigators are asking if any businesses in the area have video of the suspect’s vehicle before or after the collision to contact them.

Investigators are also asking for vehicle repair shops to be on the lookout for the suspect’s vehicle, as it will have significant front driver’s side damage.
