One Year Anniversary of the Unsolved Murder of 15-Year-Old Devin Griffiths

UP TO $1000 REWARD

San Diego County Crime Stoppers and investigators from the Chula Vista Police Department’s Crimes of Violence Unit continue to ask for the public’s help in identifying and locating the suspects responsible for the murder of 15-year-old Devin Griffiths.

On Friday, January 31, 2020, at about 10:30 p.m., a birthday party was held in the 900 block of Maria Way in Chula Vista. Per partygoers, an argument between two teenagers turned into a physical fight that moved out to the street.

At one point during the fight, 15-year-old Devin, who was not initially in the argument, was seen trying to help a friend being attacked by several young men. When Devin jumped in, he was stabbed multiple times in his upper body. Devin stumbled away and fell to the ground. The suspect group fled immediately in at least two unknown vehicles. Upon the Chula Vista Police Department receiving multiple 9-1-1 calls, officers and medics responded to the scene. Officers detained and interviewed several partygoers who provided limited information about the incident and suspects. Two arrests were made unrelated to the stabbing itself. Devin was bleeding and unconscious when officers arrived. He was transported to UCSD Medical Center with critical injuries. On Sunday, February 16th, in the early morning, Devin succumbed to his injuries and passed away with his family at his side. Devin had just turned 15 in November.

From the time of the incident, investigators have been attempting to contact all attendees of the party in hopes of gathering information that will help identify the suspects involved in the stabbing. The suspect group is believed to have consisted of eight to fifteen people, mostly young men but also women. All were described as either Hispanic or White, between the ages of 17-20.

The Chula Vista Police Department is asking for anyone who attended the party who has not been contacted by investigators, to call and provide a statement. Investigators also believe there is a likelihood witnesses would have used their cell phones to record the fight. CVPD is asking anyone with information, video of the incident or working exterior cameras around the 900 block of Maria Way to contact the Chula Vista Police Department at (619) 691-5074 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477.
